"Man travelled to the moon and learned so much about the earth along the way. This was an extreme endeavour in 1969. I like thinking in extremes because I too learn so much on the way. I installed two monumental sculptures on a drifting iceberg in Greenland to show the extend and speed of climate change in the Arctic. This extreme art project opened my eyes to challenges the local Inuit face in adapting their lives to rapidly changing conditions: a direct connection between climate and culture. It became clear to me that climate change IS culture change. My current project is the creation of an autonomous Arctic glacier in a hot, waterless desert. We found: the hotter the air, the more ice. We actually live in an ocean of water; we just don't see it. We may be swimming in a sea of solution...

This footage if from October 2014, when I visited Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakesh. This round about is just across The Hassan II Mosque or Grande Mosquée Hassan II which is the most famous mosque of Morocco. The weather was amazing and as you can see the kids were casually enjoying themselves right in the middle of a roundabout.

Travel video about destination Rabat in Morocco. Rabat was once the centre of power of the Almohades and today it is the capital of Morocco and the government headquarters of King Mohammed The Sixth. The majority of its buildings are linked to the country's historic past and its former sovereigns including the Mausoleum of Mohammed The Fifth. Opposite the Mausoleum is one of the city's best-known landmarks, the Tour Hassan that rises 44 metres into the sky. In the picturesque quarter of the Kasbah Des Oudaias with its whitewashed houses and sky-blue doors and window frames is the city's oldest mosque. When Marrakech became the country's capital city, Rabat gradually fell into decline until when, in 1609, Andalusian Muslims and Jews settled here. An increasing number of people inhabited the...
Travel video about destination Rabat in Morocco. Rabat is the capital of Morocco and also its royal seat of power. The main residence of King Mohammed the Sixth is a fascinating modern metropolis. Along with its monumental works of art, it is the fourth oldest of the Makhzen cities, is also one of Morocco's most important. Cafés and workshops reflect daily life and most of the city's souks are divided into specialized areas with items such as leather goods, blankets and carpets for sale and with a little haggling, it's possible to purchase quality handicrafts at a very modest price! The Kasbah des Udayas was built by Yaqub al-Mansur in the 12th century. It is located at Rabat's most elevated point and is like a village within the city. The eight metre high wall once protected the Kasbah ...

While Rabat, Morocco’s political and administrative capital since independence in 1956, has not established itself as a tourist destination, visitors who do go find a gem of a city. The colonial architecture is stunning, the palm-lined boulevards are well kept and relatively free of traffic, and the atmosphere is as cosmopolitan as its economic big brother down the coast. All in all, life here is pleasant and civilised. Casablancais say that, with all the bureaucrats, Rabat is dull, and they have a point. Yet the city is more laid-back, pleasant and more provincial than Casablanca, and far less grimy and frantic. The quiet medina has an authentic feel to it, some good shops and fascinating architecture. You’ll be blissfully ignored on the streets and souqs, so it’s easy to discover the cit...
Rabat is a town in the Northern Region of Malta, with a population of 11,497 as of March 2014. The name of the town is derived from the Arabic word for 'suburb': الرباط, as it was the suburb of the old capital Mdina. Half of the present-day village core also formed part of the Roman city of Melite, before the latter was resized during the Fatimid occupation. The Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See to the Republic of Malta is seated in this village. The Local Council of Rabat is also the administrator of Baħrija. Parts of the films Munich and Black Eagle were shot in Rabat. In December 1999, Mtarfa seceded from Rabat to form a separate Local Council by Act XXI, an amendment to the Local Council Act of 1993 (Act XV). Visiting Morocco is a once in a lifetime experience! It is like a magic carpet, full of diverse landscapes, exotic combinations of colors, of ancient medinas, buildings with stunningly geometrical berber designs, cultural experiences which have been preserved over centuries, incredibly hospitable people who make even first time visitors feel as if they are coming home after a long voyage. A place where even your eyes & nose look forward to your next meal, not just your taste-buds. A taste of the regal life in the artistically designed riads, waking up looking at magical brass lamps, rooms with multihued curtains, pottery and carpets! Not only is Morocco a photographer’s paradise, but also a shopper’s paradise, where you feel like buying everything! Casablanca, is the most populous city a...

At the end of the 2007/08 ski season in Norway, I take a vacation to Malta with some coworkers from Kvitfjell: Ditte Krogsgaard Pedersen (DK), Tasja Nielsen (DK), Nicklas Lindqvist (SE) and myself (US) meet Clayton Borg (MT) in his homeland, where his family offers us the use of their condominium overlooking Mellieha Bay. Clayton doubles as a tour guide extraordinaire by spending the next eleven days driving us around his small three-island country, exploring sights both on and off the beaten path, introducing us to his generous family and friends, and connecting us to a culture that has been a crossroads of civilization for thousands of years. DAY I (Saturday, April 26): I travel by train from Ringebu to Gardermoen airport in Oslo, where I meet Ditte and Tasja, who have just returned t...
"I want to see the world. Follow a map to its edges, and keep going. Forgo the plans. Trust my instincts. Let curiosity be my guide. I want to change hemispheres. Sleep with unfamiliar stars. And let the journey unfold before me." - The Maptia Manifesto To kind of celebrate the past year and a half, I'd like to top off 2014 with a look back at the highlights. It's been a good ride so far.
